Learning
The work of the LTC
is focused on improving the learning skills of students, faculty
and staff. As a major part of the Learning Village, the LTC
shares a mission of initiating, enabling and sustaining innovations
that enhance academic excellence at UD.
Here are the key
initiatives of the LTC that foster learning:
1) Learning Services for Students
- Supporting the development of student learning skills
including: learner enrichment; reading; writing; quantitative
reasoning; oral communication; and specialized support for
designated student populations.
2) Learning Development for Faculty and Staff
- Providing learning development for faculty and staff
by offering professional development opportunities including:
teaching and learning skills development; e-learning and
e-media support; computer software training; Writing-Across-the-Curriculum;
service learning support; leadership development; and general
and graduation competencies support.
3) Developing
and Supporting Innovations in Learning Infrastructure
- Supporting the creation and use of new learning infrastructure
including: the student notebook computer initiative; deployment
of wireless networks across the campus; grant support for
learning and teaching initiatives; support of the scholarship
of teaching; supporting the creation of new learning spaces
that enable active learning approaches; and pioneering efforts
in combining learning with residential living to promote
student community-building and to deepen learning.
The LTC acts as an incubator for innovative teaching and learning
that impacts the entire campus. These initiatives continue
to embrace the key characteristics that distinguish UD as
a Catholic Marianist school and a leader in higher education.
