E-Learning Course Development Support

Our E-learning Lab, which is managed by David Wright and Sheri Stover, has the ability to support faculty with the design of their classes. I realize that most people tend to view "e-learning" as a "distance only" model. This is not the case with our e-Learning Lab. The vast majority of the people we support are building "technology-enhanced" components for predominantly instructor-led classes on campus.

WebCT is the course management software that is will be supported by the e-Learning Lab from Fall 2003 onwards. WebCT can be used to deliver many of the online course materials that students can access from their notebook computers.

IT Training Support for Faculty

Our IT training team (Mary Jo Barrows and Patrick Czupik) is prepared to assist departments and academic units in identifying and preparing specific training and development programs that will help faculty address the notebook integration challenge. As we identify training needs, our IT training professionals will work with chairs, deans and program directors to explore the most effective ways of delivering on the various needs. These strategies may involve a combination of instructor-led classes and on-line tutorials.

SOEAP/ITEL Notebook Workshops

A series of six workshops were offered to UD faculty on "Integrating Notebook Computing into the Higher Education Classroom". The workshops were offered by ITEL (Institute for Technology-Enhanced Learning) from the School of Education and Allied Professions at UD and supported by the Ohio Learning Network. Materials from the workshops are available to UD faculty by logging onto the following QuickPlace Web site: ITEL Notebook Workshops. Streaming digital movies and the PowerPoint presentation files are available of each workshop. Support for the creation of the streaming digital movies was provided by UD's Educational IT.
